Fast-forward to 2014….and it's been sometime since the last bit of work was completed on the driveway. Pete also completed the landscaping along the driveway last year and installed extra drainage for the possible monsoons that QLD experiences from time to time.

Council have also recently approved the PBA submitted for the house and we've done some maintenance on the driveway. So it's onto some more organising for the next steps and maybe even a chance for a visit in the next weeks.

Final Section Concrete Pour

It's been a long time coming, but we finally made it to the last concrete pour of this driveway. The last section took 16 cubic metres of concrete and we proved today that a concrete truck with 5 cubic metres of concrete can reverse up the driveway with no trouble at all. This says a lot about the strength and planning of such a driveway given the slope. It also has greater meaning for the house build - all footings and slabs will have easy access for the trucks in the future!
Pete, Will and Clynton were on board today to finish the final section, which looks great - well done guys.

Final section prep day

Today was good to see that the final section of driveway was being prepared. There's a ton of steel in there and a massive drain in the middle section. All systems are go for the pour tomorrow and the weather is looking spectacular with mild 25 deg. day shaping up.

Top section poured today

What an improvement, just seeing this top section poured really shows how the whole driveway is coming together and also how much load it can handle. Having both a loaded concrete truck and pump truck being able to get up the driveway and be both on it at the same time, tells us that the driveway is doing what it's promised - it's able to handle very heavy vehicles and look ascetically pleasing as well as providing drainage and retaining functions for that part of the slope.
Peter, Will and Clynton were all on deck today, pushing out the slab which looks fantastic.
Job well done guys.

driveway prep - steel and more steel

Today's effort was fairly monumental.  It's looking like artwork - the steel and plywood and plastic holders are the canvas.  When you look at the complex matrix inside of concrete formwork structures, you can't help but see construction artists at work here.

It's something of beauty.

A pity it will be covered with the solidifying element that is concrete. It's quite technical as well,  structural weight,  drainage placement,  level calculation, edge lines and overall shape all have to be taken into account while making up the huge concrete mold and it's structural mass.

Happy Birthday Will!
