1st Section of driveway prepared and ready to pour on monday

The boys did a great job today, preparing the 1st section of driveway for the pour first thing monday morning 17.12.2012.
Pretty much everything that was done up until this point (the geotech work, the hydraulic work, the engineering of the wall, the installation of the stormwater, the electric/telecom/internet cable install, sewer install - everything, had to be done before we could start on any driveway section.  It would have been nice if we just said, "hey let's pour a driveway slab", but no - all the other stuff HAD to be done before we could do, what we came here to do - build driveway access up to where the house is planned to go.
It's been a journey so far, an experiment even - but the photos below show the results (even though not yet finished) of much effort and planning.  We're nearly there and really excited about monday.  Well done to Pete and the boys for the professional grade quality they're installing.

Apparently, the positrack machine super compacted the roadbase after driving over many many times - what we wanted really, but doesn't help when you're trying to dig a trench. Pete reckons digging this trench nearly killed them.

Footing steel installed and a much needed arrival

Toe footing steel RW2 section was installed, excess dirt and rocks were taken away and the toilet arrived on site (very good news)

Final Section Concrete Pour

It's been a long time coming, but we finally made it to the last concrete pour of this driveway. The last section took 16 cubic metres of concrete and we proved today that a concrete truck with 5 cubic metres of concrete can reverse up the driveway with no trouble at all. This says a lot about the strength and planning of such a driveway given the slope. It also has greater meaning for the house build - all footings and slabs will have easy access for the trucks in the future! Pete, Will and Clynton were on board today to finish the final section, which looks great - well done guys.

Stage 2 of driveway (top section) started.

We have finally started on the Stage 2 of the driveway - after literally months of rain.  We could not have stopped the last stage at a better time - it was hammering down with rain 3 days after we completed stage 1. Peter is again available so we are going all out to finish Stage 2.  After sorting out where the garage will be placed (thanks Chris) in order for the driveway to meet up correctly from its current position, we are now ready to install the top section.
